Recreating Vintage Ethiopian Brand Identities

This project is a design-driven initiative dedicated to reviving and reimagining vintage Ethiopian brand identities. By carefully studying classic logos, typography, and packaging from Ethiopia's rich commercial past, the project bridges the gap between historical nostalgia and modern visual aesthetics.

It breathes new life into iconic and forgotten local brands, preserving the country's unique graphic heritage while adapting it for contemporary contexts. Ultimately, it serves as both a cultural time capsule and a celebration of the untold history of Ethiopian commercial art.

The founder

Abiy Solomon

Abiy’s journey in media began with prestigious roles at the nation’s largest English media outlets, including The Reporter, The Daily Monitor, Fortune, and the BBC News African Service & BBC Media Action. His editorial prowess and commitment to excellence led to the publication and production of a multitude of compelling articles, earning him recognition as a trusted voice in journalism.

A trailblazer in the blogosphere, Abiy founded Addis Tibeb 20 years ago, establishing himself as one of Ethiopia’s first bloggers. This digital venture became a platform for insightful commentary and cultural exploration, showcasing Abiy’s literary finesse and commitment to fostering online dialogue.

Beyond the written word, Abiy is a master of visual storytelling and graphic design. Collaborating with prominent brands, personalities, and companies, he has crafted visually stunning narratives that captivate audiences and leave a lasting impression.

In his recent roles as Editor-in-Chief for Addis Zeybe and the fact-checking initiative HaqChek, Abiy has solidified his position as a key figure in digital media and information verification. His contributions extend beyond newsrooms, as he provides extensive training to government officials on social media content creation, media monitoring, and visual storytelling.

Continuing to push boundaries, Abiy Solomon has founded Te’amir Communication, a dynamic venture specializing in branding, multimedia production, graphic design, printing, social media, and media consultancy. This venture represents his dedication to driving innovation and setting new standards in the evolving media landscape.

As a multifaceted professional, he continues to shape the narrative of Ethiopia’s media landscape, inspiring the next generation of storytellers and digital visionaries.
